What's New at the Learning Center?

Telling our Story

On this page you'll find grant news, upcoming events, photos, student success stories, and more.

To submit a photo, success story, testimony, profile or other content, please contact us. Include the context if you are submitting a photo (i.e., tell us what's happening in the photo and why you submitted this particular one) and be sure to download the Image Release Form at left so we have your permission to tell the story. Be part of the story! Were you, your children, or grandchildren taught by the School Sisters of Notre Dame? Now you can share your memories with us.

Helping The Little Ones
City kids will continue to ramp up their reading and math skills at the Center thanks to donors to our new Adopt-A-Student Fund, launched this fall. To date, 40 donors have donated or pledged nearly $60,000.

Five donors became founding members of the Center’s Adopt-A-Student Society by pledging $1,000 a year for five years.

A retired school counselor whose daughter teaches in city schools, Linda Saller says she and her husband gave to the campaign out of a belief in education and “love for the Sisters.” Similarly, Roseanne Young appreciates the sisters “and the good work that they do. I admire their grass roots approach,“ she says. “If you help the little ones to learn better, it will empower them as adults to be good, contributing citizens.”

The Adopt A Student fund is part of a strategy to place the Center on sustainable financial footing. For more information or to donate, please contact Sister Evelyn Breslin, SSND at the Center at 254-5110.

Financial Report
Since starting operations on March 1, 2004, the Center has received financial support from a variety of individuals and organizations. The School Sisters of Notre Dame have been especially supportive in providing financial resources to establish this new ministry. And many individual contributors, churches, and other organizations have allowed the Center to meet current operating expenses and also establish a modest reserve fund.

In this challenging economic climate, nonprofit organizations like ours understandably experience a reduction in financial support. However, the demand for the services we provide continues to grow. A youngster who needs help in reading or math cannot wait until the economy improves – that child needs help now.

Please keep the Center in mind when you are planning your contributions. Cash gifts, pledges, United Way donations (our donor designation number is 2470), or gifts of securities are several ways that you can help. And you can be assured that Sister Evelyn and the staff are good stewards of the resources they receive and, with fiscal restraint and careful planning, will make sure that they continue to make a difference in the lives of the young people we serve.
